All Calgary campuses closed; all classes and events cancelled
Given the continued state of emergency in Calgary, the University of Calgary’s four campuses will remain closed on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25. Most campus buildings remain locked, and all classes and events have been cancelled or will be postponed.
The university is continuing to support the city’s relief efforts by providing accommodation to more than 400 evacuees, as well as 150 emergency response workers from outside Calgary. Calgarians who need support should continue to go to one of the City of Calgary’s emergency reception centres first.
“Our thoughts are with the many people affected by this tragic situation,” says President Elizabeth Cannon. “Many of our students, faculty, staff and alumni have been evacuated or are supporting families and friends. We are heeding the direction of the Mayor to keep non-essential traffic off our roads to allow emergency personnel access to affected areas. Our emergency response efforts will remain active over the weekend and into next week. The safety and security of our campus community and all Calgarians remains our number-one priority.”
The university’s four campuses have not sustained flood damage, except for some minor rain damage.
Some staff members are required on campus as essential personnel for emergency and operational purposes, including campus security. Please check with your supervisor if you are unsure if you are required to be on campus.
For students enrolled in spring session classes and faculty teaching those classes, information will be made available tomorrow on how the university will handle the impact of class cancellations during this emergency situation.
