In collaboration with the City of Calgary, EVDS is hosting makeCalgary; a three-day exploration of Calgary's urban landscape featuring a panel discussion of internationally recognized designers, day-long design charrette and a public exhibition in celebration of the faculty's 40th anniversary.

Environmental design students, Matt Knapik and Kate van Fraassen have played an integral role in the creation of this event and have spearheaded a multi-part documentary on CJSW, the campus radio station, to commemorate the coming events.

The first episode aired today featuring interviews with urban designer Rob Adams of Melbourne, architect Andreu Arriola of Barcelona, and industrial designer Ingrid Fetell of New York. These three speakers will join EVDS for a live panel discussion on Thursday, September 29 from 7-9 p.m. at the downtown campus to share their experiences as catalysts of change in their respective cities, and translate them to the potential urban opportunities found in Calgary.

"makeCalgary provides a forum for decision makers in the city to consider, debate and propose the kind of change they see for a more livable and vibrant city," says EVDS Dean Nancy Pollock-Ellwand. "This event promises to produce tangible ideas for the city, through the panel discussion of respected international designers, stimulate conversation among local leaders, and provide momentum for a collaborative design charrette on Friday."
