EVDS Professor Dr. Brian R. Sinclair earns campus wide recognition for his excellence in teaching from the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA).

Recently, the GSA announced the winners of the 2011-2012 Teaching & Supervisory Excellence Awards (TEA/SEA).

The TEA/SEA Awards are designed to recognize outstanding faculty, staff and students for excellence in teaching and supervision at the graduate level. The awards are student driven, with all nominations brought forward by individuals studying at the graduate level. Winners are selected based on their demonstration of excellence in teaching, learning and leadership as well on their ability to engage students.

Each year only one award is given for Teaching Excellence at the graduate level. This year Dr. Brian R. Sinclair earned the top honour for his instruction at the graduate level in EVDS’s architecture and environmental design programs. He was also nominated for the Supervisory Excellence Award.

A number of EVDS faculty were also nominated for teaching and/or supervisory excellence including: architecture professor Marc Boutin; environmental science and planning professor Cormack Gates; and Beverly Sandalack, professor of planning and urban design. Additionally, EVDS Program Administrator Jen Taillefer was also nominated for the support staff award.

Such acknowledgement is an important achievement for EVDS, an interdisciplinary Faculty which emphasizes compelling design pedagogy and studio-based education.

“I am very proud of the teaching and supervision our faculty provide to our students,” states Dean, Nancy Pollock-Ellwand. “Therefore the recognition that comes with these nominations from GSA for teaching excellence is very gratifying. Dr. Sinclair’s award embodies the dedication of our faculty to provide effective, caring and inspiring teaching and mentoring to our Masters and Doctoral students. We are very proud of Sinclair's most deserving acknowledgment through this significant award.”

The GSA honoured the winners at a brunch which saw over 80 attendees, the majority of whom were nominated for awards. Other winners include Tom Stelfox for Supervisory Excellence, Bonnie King for Exemplary Administrative Support and Robert Oxoby for Exemplary Administrative Support.
