EVDS Dean Dr. Nancy Pollock-Ellwand participated in the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) Congress held in Iqaluit, Nunavut July 14-17, 2011 - the furthest point north for the Congress in its 77 year history.

At the Congress Dr. Pollock-Ellwand presented her paper Planning Innovations with Cultural Landscapes: Canada, New Zealand and Australia. The presentation provided a comparison of approaches to conserving aboriginal cultural landscapes in 3 countries with similarly significant indigenous populations.

“There is much to learn from recent advancements in heritage conservation in regards to planning approaches, design inspiration and professional responsibilities,” notes Pollock-Ellwand. “The diversity of the northern Canadian landscape was an excellent setting for us to discuss landscape architecture issues here in Canada.”
