Graham Livesey is an Associate Professor in the Architecture Program (Faculty of Environmental Design) where he teaches design, architectural history, and urban design. He holds a professional BArch degree (1984) and a post-professional MArch degree (1991), both from McGill University. He was the Associate Dean (Academic - Architecture) from 2009-10, Director of the Architecture Program (2000-06), and was a principal of Down + Livesey Architects (1995-2004). With Down + Livesey Architects he worked a variety of projects including: the Vulcan County Admin. Building Expansion, renovation of the Art Gallery of Calgary, expansion of the Alberta College of Art & Design, and the design of Discovery House ( a second stage women's shelter). He has served in a wide range of organizations including being a member of the council of the Alberta Association of Architects (1997-2000), Canadian Director to the ACSA (2003-06), Treasurer to the ACSA (2007-09), a member of the CCUSA (2000-2006). He is currently an expert advisor to The Canadian Encyclopedia, editorial advisor to the journal Architecture + Ideas, contributor to The Mark, and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Architectural Education. He has published two books with the University of Calgary Press: Passages: Explorations of the Contemporary City (2004) and Gordon Atkins: Architecture 1960-1995 (2005). Graham Livesey is currently working on a doctorate in the Faculty of Architecture at TUDelft in the Netherlands, where he is examining the role of green space systems in contemporary cities by looking at the legacy of the Garden City movement, and theories derived from landscape ecology, and Deleuze and Guattari.
