Dr. Mary-Ellen Tyler, an associate professor at EVDS, will participate in Buildex Calgary, Alberta's largest tradeshow and conference for contstruction, architecture, interior design and property management industries on November 9 & 10. She will be part of a keynote panel addressing climate change related challenges to infrastructures and buildings.
John Brown, an architecture professor and associate dean of research in the Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS), co-presented an interim report on the Age-in-Place Laneway House Pilot Project to the Standing Policy Committee on Planning and Urban Development at the Calgary City Council on October 17.
The Faculty of Environmental Design would like to acknowledge the passing of Bing Thom, one of Canada’s leading architects and a donor to the University of Calgary. Last year, the firm of this great Canadian architect donated their papers to the University’s Canadian Architectural Archives. This collection is invaluable to our students of design who will have the opportunity in years to come to see, touch and better understand the legacy of this innovative architectural thinker and maker.
In a recent ceremony in Rideau Hall, Jeremy Sturgess, adjunct professor with the Faculty of Environmental Design and Dean’s Circle member accepted the Governor General’s Medal in Architecture which recognized outstanding achievement for his work of the Glacier Skywalk in Jasper, AB.
Branko Kolarevic, Professor, was elected future President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). His 4-year term of service on the ACSA Board of Directors started on July 1, 2016, first as 2nd Vice President, then as First Vice President/President-Elect, and as President in 2018/2019.

A speculative architect, Liam Young's presentation will take us on a joyride into a smart city of future in a driverless taxi. The talk will be an audio-visual expedition to a city found somewhere between the present and the predicted, the real and the imagined, stitched together from fragments of real landscapes and designed urban fictions.
