Graduate students, faculty and alumni at the Faculty of Environmental Design will present a wide range of research topics on improving public space and the environment — from how streets can improve our mental health, to accommodating solar panels on the sides of apartment buildings — at the 2017 Faculty of Environmental Design Research Conference, March 30.

Tracy Beauregard, manager of faculty operations, administration and facilities in the Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS) was a winner of a 2016 U Make a Difference award, and knows that creating a positive work environment and community takes time — but it's worth it.

The students at the Faculty of Environmental Design invite you to the 2017 Year End Show, April 22 - 23, in the recently renovated St. Louis Hotel in downtown Calgary. 

The Year End Show (YES) is an annual event that provides graduating students of the Master of Architecture and Master of Planning the opportunity to showcase their work. This year’s projects include intensive senior research studios, theoretically based elective courses and inspired directed studies.

What would a colony on Mars look like? What would be the important design considerations? How do you make it livable, not just functional, for humans? These are the intriguing challenges being explored in a new studio course. When men and women begin making the long journey to Mars, how will those who go live on or below the surface of the red planet?

The University of Calgary’s EVDS is known for exhibits and student work that combine form and function with creative innovation. The latest project from the professional Master of Architecture degree students is no different.

In December, our Faculty of Environmental Design showcased work of Studio 3, the third design studio which involved all first year MArch students.

How do we divert a large amount of housing demolition waste from Calgary’s landfills? EVDS Associate Professor, Josh Taron’s ongoing research into this topic is featured in the latest UCalgary video & story.

On November 8, two EVDS graduate planning students, Adetoun Osuntogun and Madison Smith, and their instructor, Harry Harker visited the Langdon Elementary School to celebrate World Town Planning Day with the Grade 7 students.

At inaugural Calgary Interprofessional Challenge during Nov. 4-6, students from the faculties of Environmental Design and Nursing, the Cumming School of Medicine, the Haskayne School of Business, and the departments of Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science formed six interprofessional teams as they developed ways to help seniors live in their homes longer.
