Nancy Pollock-Ellwand, dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary, has been appointed dean of The University of Arizona College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture (CAPLA), effective July 31, 2017.

Nancy Pollock-Ellwand, dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design, has been appointed dean of The University of Arizona College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, effective July 31, 2017. She is stepping down from her position as dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design, effective immediately.

I would like to thank Dean Pollock-Ellwand for her seven years of passion and service to the University of Calgary. Pollock-Ellwand began her tenure in January 2010, having previously served as head and chair of the School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design and professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Adelaide, Australia.

During her first decanal term, Pollock-Ellwand led a number of notable achievements for the Faculty of Environmental Design to help it realize its ambition of becoming the leading interdisciplinary design school in Canada. She helped position the Faculty as the only institute in Alberta delivering accredited graduate programs in architecture and planning.

Under Pollock-Ellwand’s leadership, the Faculty relaunched the Master of Planning (MPlan) design-based degree, and launched the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) in September 2015. Building on the well-respected Barcelona semester, she helped expand international opportunities for students by developing a strong relationship with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, and the City of Melbourne.

An interim dean will be announced shortly.

Please join me in congratulating Nancy on her new role with The University of Arizona.
