BIOGRAPHY

Maha obtained her undergraduate degree in Geology from Yarmouk University in Jordan in 1998, followed by a Master degree in Environmental Science Management from the University of Jordan in 2001.

Her previous position as Projects Coordinator for the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy (ISEEE) at the University of Calgary, broaden her research, academic and educational views in the areas of environment, energy and climate change related topics, adding the Canadian perspective. It demonstrates that finding solutions to real-world energy and environmental problems requires a dynamic, interdisciplinary approach to research and learning.

Between 2002 and 2011 she worked as Head of Environment and Climate Change Portfolio (Environment Analyst) at United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Jordan Country office, and as Director, Projects Department at the Jordan’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the two positions have provided her with many professional skills such as strategic planning, inter-sectoral coordination, project management, integrating and mainstreaming environmental issues within national policies and strategies, monitoring and  evaluation, and communications and networking. This work experience enriched her career path with international cooperation, development and coordination, donor coordination, resource mobilization and financial management skills, capacity development, project design and management; and human resource planning and management.

In 2012 she began working toward her PhD at the University of Calgary specializing in Environmental Design, and Energy Environmental Systems.Maha conducts her research in the Middle East region focusing on the Arab States; where she intends to critically evaluate existing local policies and governance, identify the challenges, opportunities and primary driving factors for climate change and water-energy nexus. Further, her research aims to propose local policy and principles for governance of climate change adaptation and mitigation in the Arab states.
