Personal Statement

My primary research interest is sustainable building design, with my current research focusing on environmental control systems in cold climate commercial and institutional buildings. I have also been the energy engineer for buildings selected as case studies for the 2030 Challenge. Recently published articles developed with my graduate students show that heating system models for such buildings are relatively poor, which leads to problems in whole building energy simulation for 1) performance rating (e.g., LEED), and 2) decision making for new design and retrofit. I am currently pursing monitoring of building systems to improve understanding so better energy performance can be achieved.
