Keenan_m.jpg

Let’s face it. Most people find New Year’s Resolutions frustrating.

A recent study in the Journal of Clinical Psychology reports that fewer than half of Americans even bother making them, and those who do report a dismal success rate of 8 per cent.

Men and women are equally likely to make New Year’s vows, though females incline more toward weight loss while men list quitting smoking more than women do. Getting organized is also near the top of the list.

Climate change will endanger caribou habitat, study says

Caribou.jpg

Reindeer, from Northern Europe or Asia, are often thought of as a domesticated animal, one that may pull Santa’s sled. Caribou, similar in appearance but living in the wilderness of North America, are thought of as conducting an untamed and adventurous life. However, new research published in the journal Nature Climate Change suggests that there are more similarities about these two animals than previously thought and change in climate played a role in their evolution.

The phrase “sustainable energy usage” might seem out of place when referring to retail development in the deep south of a sprawling metropolis, but the latest project of Brookfield Residential attempts to combine both. The publicly traded company used more than 250 solar panels, each composed of 60 monocrystalline silicon solar cells, to power the outdoor lighting for both the streets and parking lot in the retail section of Seton (which currently houses Save On Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, Bank of Montreal and an assortment of fast-food joints).

Calgary’s main developers group apologized Thursday after igniting furor and mockery with an article some say preached segregation by suggesting that gay couples may not feel comfortable living “in a world of heterosexual suburbanites.”

But it only did so after several cries of protest — most notably from Mayor Naheed Nenshi.
