Welcome to the Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS), where exciting programs are offered to prepare individuals for critical work in sustainable built and natural environmental futures. Here at the University of Calgary, situated within one of the fastest growing provinces and cities in Canada, this Faculty has long been dedicated to an interdisciplinary and innovative culture. Our combined commitment to both the environment and leading edge design makes for a stimulating learning and teaching setting. Students as well as faculty members are dedicated to seeking answers for more sustainable ways to inhabit our world – as creative and effective design collaborators and leaders.
The Master of Architecture (MArch) is a course-based graduate degree; a top-tier program in Canada, which centres itself on the ‘ecologies’ of design. This fits with our thesis-based Master of Environmental Design (MEDes) and doctoral program making for a community of scholars who consider design and environmental directions from a broad interdisciplinary perspective. More recently EVDS has expanded on this view, to include a course-based Master of Environmental Design (Planning) degree.
Students at EVDS enjoy superior studio and teaching facilities that include an extensive workshop and in-house faculty gallery. Programs of study are also enriched by an array of elective possibilities and international study abroad opportunities.
We are excited to have this web-based portal to reach out to prospective and existing students, valued alumni, as well as our important community partners. The site reflects our vitality and leadership in the environmental design fields so please, take your time to explore.
